Otter Tail
Otter Tail
Real Otter Tails are the perfect accessory to use as a trim or as a border on your medieval or Larp garment. Otter tails are long and thin and are perfect for craft projects. Since this is real fur it may have slight imperfections, however, this beautiful fur tail will do the job perfectly.
Facts
Otters (Lutrinae) are a subfamily of carnivorous mammals in the family Mustelidae. There are several species of otters, characterized by short legs, clawed and webbed toes (on the front and back legs), and a long tail.
Characteristics
The fur of the otter is composed of hairs that interlock with each other
The otter does not have a thick layer of fat under its skin. It is its coat, composed of short and long interlocking hairs that insulate it from the cold. A thermographic study has shown that when the temperature is too high, the European otter dissipates its heat rather through its legs, while the giant otter does it through its whole body and especially its tail. It can live up to 20 years in captivity. But in the wild, its life expectancy varies between 5 and 10 years. The otter is often a solitary animal. Otters stay with their mother for an average of eight months and sometimes up to eighteen months. The wild fur, trapped by our Quebec trappers, is eco-responsible, biodegradable, and ecological fur. Much more ecological than synthetic fur which contains plastic, a well-known petroleum derivative.
